Hello !! I am Rupesh Kumar This blog is going to be about about why I started studying PTS, what I thought was most helpful, and what I plan to do with the knowledge and skills I’ve gained. Basically it is for the #PTSchallenge by Josh Mason Sir and Cyber Supply Drop , but it can also serve as a guide for new beginners or for those who are planning to take this awesome course.

Feel free to skip first question if you aren’t a beginner.

So starting with the first question why I started studying PTS ?

The answer is to learn Pentesting from scratch, basically for stepping in Offensive side of CyberSecurity , I landed on this course from one of the videos of David Bombal Sir in which Neal Bridges Sir, one of the top professional in Cybersecurity discussed about this course as a good beginner level course for learning Pentesting at No Price!! and after that I started it but all of the things were a bit tough for me at that time to set in my mind, but I didn’t give up and started to dig more as much as I can, soon I found several good resources like The IBM’s Certified Cybersecurity Analyst Professional course on coursera though it is almost theoretical and more tends to bend towards SOC analysts and Blue Teaming but definitely a good base to start with but the practical skills are a key factor in the infosec industry, and so I turned to Hack The Box and Try Hack Me to gain some hands on experience, and one day I got a chance to participate in #joshtryhackmechallenge and Boom !! I got selected for a 1 month Try Hack Me premium subscription by Josh Mason Sir, from there I started my journey in offensive side and Completed the Offensive Learning Path in just 8 days with 16 hrs of study per day and recently I have completed my Penetration Testing Student by E learn security. It is an awesome course and absolutely for beginners and especially when money is a constraint.

Now the most important part is what I learnt from this course ?

As I already had some previous experience it was a bit easy for me doing now and the most important things I get to know in this course is:

Basic Networking and some general must known information about Web applications that influence our Penetration Testing greatly. Like Link Layer Devices and Protocols crucial for Man In The Middle attacks that are most common attacks in use by cyber criminals today.

Moreover Firewall & Defense were also other important topics which I found helpful in the Pre-requisites section. Moving ahead in the Preliminary skills and Programming section, the most helpful was , Crafting Of Tools, using c++ and python. After discovering the attack surface, the important thing is the correct usage of tools and commands. The ability to craft a tool is i guess the most important thing to have in our arsenal and the least covered topic on public platforms, now the last section was of the Penetration Testing Basics, the real part of this course. I would say that I learned a lot from each part of this module, and is equally helpful but for me these topics were more helpful and important , these were introduction to ncat , Null Session , ARP Poisoning ,XSS , SQL injection , Sqlmap and the 3 black boxes at the end were superfun.

Now after completing Penetration Testing Student Path, I have gained more insights in the pentesting at beginner level and i guess this will help me in solving HTB ,THM machines and various capture the flags and maybe one day i may get a chance to deploy these skills to defend organizations through red teaming and make digital environment safe.

Overall it was the fun path of 38 hours going through important concepts and grasping them piece by piece with the super friendly course structure and resources by E learn Security. The experience gained from the Try Hack Me Premium from giveaway was also a crucial factor in going through this course.

All thanks to Josh Mason Sir for organizing these awesome challenges that motivates and inspires to achieve more and to prove it my profile on Try Hack Me says it all . Thanks a lot sir.
